Anal sex is the new home run- at least for young men. However, many young men don't care about their partner's opinions of anal sex.

New research reveals that young men often neglect to care about young women's consent or pleasure when having anal sex or talking about it with their friends.

The latest study involved 130 people between the ages of 16 and 18. Participants came from diverse social and economic backgrounds and lived in different parts of the country.

Participants were asked to talk about their sexual practices during group discussions, and individual interviews. Participants were asked to share sexual practices participants they've heart of, what they felt about them and whether they thought it was okay to engage in them.

The interviews and discussions revealed that men seem to compete to have anal sex with women. This is true even if they expect women to find it painful.

According to female participants, their male partners frequently ask them for anal sex. Women also reported being coerced into having anal sex.

"Currently, this apparently oppressive context, and indeed the practice of anal heterosex itself, appears to be largely ignored in policy and in sex education for this young age group," researchers wrote in the study.

Researchers note that not all men pressure their partners for anal sex. They said that some young women report wanting to have anal sex, and that both partners find it pleasurable.

Researchers said the findings suggest that the topic of anal sex should be discussed more openly. Educators, parents and society need to emphasize importance of "mutuality," where people listen and respond to their partner's desires and concerns.

The findings are published in the BMJ-British Medical Journal.
