Morgan & Morgan recently said they are currently reviewing claims on behalf of the Interstitial Cystitis or IC patients.

These said patients reportedly took Elmiron, a prescription drug, and currently, may be suffering from "maculopathy," a severe eye disease.

Specifically, maculopathy is a developing disease that can result in vision loss, typically in both eyes. This particular disease affects a portion of the eye in the retina's back part, also known as the "Macula."

The "macula," on the other hand, controls the eyes' ability to see fine details in objects, reads, and recognizes colors and faces. It focuses on the main or central vision.

Since 1996, millions of people have used Elmiron for the treatment of IC, which is basically painful bladder syndrome.

However, at present, there is seen a reason for many to believe that this medication may result in severe eye disease.

Such an occurrence is a form of maculopathy, the deterioration of the "macula." The first symptoms of this condition include blurred vision, dark spots, difficulty in focusing, as well as other impairments. And as mentioned, as the disease progresses, maculopathy may cause blindness in patients.

As evidence piles up, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, the maker of Elmiron, has failed to issue a warning to the public about the drug's risks.

Millions of patients are reportedly taking the tablet that may soon be the reason for their blindness. More so, an unknown number may have already been suffering from severe health conditions for quite some time.

In relation to the pharmaceutical firm's failure to issue a warning, lawsuits on behalf of the affected patients have already started.

On its website, Morgan & Morgan said, anyone who took Elmiron and has been diagnosed with maculopathy since taking the drug could qualify for compensation.

A Potential Risk

The potential risk linked to Elmiron remained unknown until in 2015, when Atlanta-based Emory Eye Center doctors encountered six patients with a similar disease they had not previously detected.

This form of maculopathy, the doctors' findings showed, appeared to have a cause, and through further examination revealed that all six patients had consistently been taking Elmiron for years.

Additional studies that came out in 2018 and 2019, respectively, backed the connection between the drug and maculopathy. However, until now, it remains unknown how Elmiron has caused such a devastating condition.

The report posted on the website also indicates that the eye disease remains unlisted as a probable side effect by its manufacturer despite the evidence.

The number of individuals who have suffered because of Elmiron is still unknown and according to Morgan & Morgan, hundreds of thousands of people are still putting themselves at risk.

Morgan & Morgan, Ready to Help People

To help people who have been affected by Elmiron, Morgan & Morgan developed the Elmiron Lawsuit Guideline, which can be downloaded from the company's website.

The law firm also called out to people, and the loved ones of those that have been diagnosed with the eye condition, saying that they "could be owed compensation for medical costs, pain, and suffering lost income, as well as other damages."

For more than three decades now, attorneys at Morgan & Morgan have been fighting for people like those affected by Elmiron.
