According to Nutrition Studies.org, healthy weight loss is composed of 80% diet and 20% exercise. This means that eating has a lot more to do when you want to lose those love handles and big tummies.

Business Insider reports that the average person gains one to two pounds every year. While that is relatively small, burning it is hard work. Herbalone explains that the body is programmed to survive which is why gaining weight (for the storage of energy) is easier to be achieved.

Apart from the foods you eat, did you know that there are eating habits that contribute to your weight gain? Here are some of them.

Eating Low Fat

This might be surprising because people tend to think that low-fat products don't add to the weighing scale. Eat This Not That says that low-fat products only save you a few calories. They also added that the food manufacturers replace harmless fats with low-performing simple carbohydrates that digest quickly.

They also pointed out that when you eat low fat, you store less body and eat more later.

A fan removes their face covering to eat ahead of the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 06, 2020 in London, England. A limited number of fans are welcomed back to stadiums to watch elite football across England. This was following easing of restrictions on spectators in tiers one and two areas only.

Since responsibilities are piling up, and the world gets busier than usual, people tend to eat faster. According to Business Insider, a study demonstrating that people who eat quickly are more likely to be overweight or obese. They added that this is because the body takes time to signal the brain that you are full, making you consume more food when you eat faster.

Dehydration

Drinking water is vital not only for you but also for your body. The Berkey states that drinking, not enough water not only causes an individual to be fat but affects the body's performance in many aspects.

Business Insider mentions a study that demonstrates people who drank two cups of water right before taking breakfast ate 22% fewer calories than people who did not drink water.

More Salt, More Flavor

A sign explaining the absence of salt shakers is posted on a table inside a Boston Market restaurant on August 21, 2012 in San Francisco, California. Restaurant chain Boston Market announced today that it plans to remove salt shakers from tables at all of its locations and will launch plans to reduce sodium levels by 20 percent in three popular foods -rotisserie chicken, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes.

It is indeed flavorful and savory when the right content of salt is added to the food. According to Eat This Not That, salt or sodium is in most of the meals of Americans. Although it does not add so much weight, the website notes that sodium makes an individual look fatter because it causes bloating.

Sitting Too Long

Ever since the pandemic, most people are in work from home set up, making them seat for hours or even the whole day. Business Insider pointed out a study that shows people who sit longer are more likely to be overweight.

Holidays are usually spent and family. Although fests are prominent in every household, you can maintain your weight when you try to exclude these habits.
