COVID-19 affected more than 200 countries and territories all over the world, including two international conveyances.

To date, worldometer has recorded more than 21 million confirmed cases and over 760,000 deaths worldwide.

In the United States, over five million people have tested positive for COVID-19, with over 160,000 deaths from the illness. From the given figure, more than 2,800 recoveries have been reported as of this writing.

According to experts, the numbers don't present the entire picture in many cases, with the question of whether mild or symptomatic cases have not been diagnosed.

Additionally, each state follows a different COVID-19 trajectory. In particular, New York and Washington were hit hard during the early days of this global health crisis.

However, both cases and deaths have increased more slowly in some states than others. University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation claims that some states have not yet even reached their peaks.

Latest Developments

In its most recent update in guidance, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that individuals who recovered from COVID-19 don't have to quarantine or seek testing for at least three months from recuperation.

This new recommendation, which was last updated early this month, warns that those who were infected before, should still practice social distancing and wear face masks.

As mentioned, while the previously infected individuals practice distancing and wearing face masks, they are not required to quarantine or undergo testing unless they experience and develop the symptoms again.

Another development is that the Federal health officials have asked four states and one city, including California, Minnesota, Florida, North Dakota, and Philadelphia, to draw plans for how they would be distributing a COVID-19 vaccine to become available in limited doses.

A Promising Vaccine

A couple of days ago, a single shot of experimental vaccine reportedly showed promising results in monkeys as far as a vaccine is concerned.

According to a recently-published study, the monkeys used in the study that got an experimental COVID-19 produced an immune reaction following one shot.

The Jannsen Vaccines and Prevention researchers, as well as those from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, gave 32 monkeys a single dose of one of the seven different vaccine candidate variants and 20 of them, a dose of placebo.

As a result, following the animals' vaccination, they were all exposed to COVID-19 infection. All 20 monkeys that were given a dose of placebo got infected.

The ideal vaccine preempted the lung contagions of all six animals that were administered with it, and stopped nasal infection in five monkeys, out of six.
