4 Common Injuries Women Encounter During Sexual Intercourse and How to Avoid Them
It may be said as a joke, but sex is indeed a serious workout. It involves continuous and, albeit, tiring body movements. But as good as it is for the body, it also involves the unfortunate downside of possible injuries.
Here are four of the most common injuries women encounter when having sex, and what to do about them:
1. Muscle Cramps
Since we are already comparing sex with a great workout, we can say that just like any other cardio routine, sexual intercourse can lead to some performance-limiting effects, including cramps in the calves, thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. This is one of the most common injuries that a woman can experience during intercourse.
If this happens, treat it like any other muscle cramp-walk around, do some stretching, and, if necessary, take a painkiller or mild muscle relaxer.

2. Sore Nipples
Sore nipples can be expected in marathon runners. This soreness is because of the friction between the nipples and whatever clothing that the runner is wearing.
Similarly, if there is a significant amount of friction during sexual intercourse, there would be a higher chance of having sore nipples.
If this happens, apply some moisturizer to the area and use nipple covers to keep the friction at a minimum, or simply take your shirt off.
3. Pain in the Pubic Area
The third item on this list may be more concerning, as a feeling of pain in the pubic area may indicate that you could potentially have a urinary tract infection.
The pain is caused by inflammation as a result of the infection that you have contracted. If this happens, it is best to consult your doctor, who would typically prescribe antibiotics to help eliminate the condition and alleviate the pain.
To avoid this from happening in the future, be sure to manage your water intake, and urinate after every sexual encounter. It is also best that you and your partner maintain good hygiene by taking a shower before and after sexual intercourse.

4. Sore Vagina and Vaginal Tearing
Having a sore vagina after sexual intercourse could be one of the most common injuries that women encounter. To ease this, take an over-the-counter painkiller or take a warm bath to relax the sore muscles.
In worse cases, vaginal tearing could also occur. This painful injury usually comes with bleeding and, in some instances, infection. This injury happens when the vagina is poorly lubricated, so abrasive and fast movements cut through the surface of the skin. Vaginal tearing typically heals very quickly. However, if after two days, the cut has not healed yet, it is best to consult your doctor.
As a preventive measure, avoid this type of injury in the future by making sure that the position you are in or the pace at which you and your partner are going during sexual intercourse is comfortable. After all, sex is supposed to be pleasurable.
