Losing weight while on a pandemic is a great move to surprise your peers by shedding those baby fats and love handles.

One diet that has gained a boost in popularity is the Keto or Ketogenic diet.

In an interview with women's health, Albert Matheny, R.D., C.S.C.S., and co-founder of SoHo Strength Lab and PROMIX Solution said that the key to weight loss is taking in fewer calories than you burn.

This only means that diets or nutrition are much more effective than exercise alone.3

What is Keto Diet

According to Harvard University, it is the process of releasing ketones in our body or bloodstream. Most cells prefer blood sugar as its main source of energy which comes from the carbohydrates we eat.

In the Keto diet, the body starts to use ketones or stored fat as a source of energy until you eat carbohydrates once again.

Take note that you should also count the calories you will be ingesting not just the carbs.

Harvard university added that the shift between ketones and carbohydrates as a source of energy happens between 2-4 days of consuming 20-50 grams of carbohydrates.

However, the institution emphasized that every individual is different and there may be more restrictions for someone to produce more ketones.

Undergoing this diet has positive healthcare responses.

According to a study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information or NCBI, overweight individuals with metabolic syndrome and Type 2 Diabetes have seen improvements in their clinical markers of disease risk with a low carbohydrate diet.

The study also mentioned other researches that showed the Ketogenic diet's promising results in varieties of neurological disorders such as epilepsy, dementia, ALS, metabolic disorders, traumatic brain injury, acne, and cancers.

What is Lazy Keto

Unlike a Ketogenic diet with strict calorie intake, Lazy Keto's only rule is to watch your carbohydrate intake. According to Shape, the ideal carbohydrates intake per day is 20-30 grams.

Shape also said that one way of sticking to the diet plan is downloading a macro tracking app.

According to Susan Wolver, M.D., an associate professor of medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University who is an expert in obesity medicine, the best plan is an eating plan that an individual can stick to.

She added that a ketogenic diet is a lot of work and when an individual watches the intake of the carbs, he/she will likely undergo ketosis.

However, according to Michelle Shapiro, MS, RD, a registered dietitian in New Your City said that protein has an insulinogenic response, which means if you eat too much of it, the body can use glucose instead of ketones in burning for energy.

Dirty Keto versus Lazy Keto

Dirty Keto is usually associated with Lazy Keto but takes note of their difference. Lazy Keto is when you watch your carbohydrates intake and according to an interview of Healthline with Perfect Keto founder, Anthony Gustin, DC, quality of food is important just important as watching or measuring your macronutrients or macros.

Dirty Keto on the other hand was defined by bulletproof as a diet that allows you to eat everything except bread, fruit, sugar, and sweets, and carbs not exceeding 50 grams.

This only means that you can eat other foods like, fast-food, burgers, pork rinds, and other cholesterol boosting food that can put you at risk.

However, there are posts from people online who gained benefits from this diet.

The word lazy and dirty different from each other. Lazy Keto diet encourages counting your carbohydrates yet getting some of your macros from quality products such as vegetables and meat.
